About Opticsvault
Why I Started This Site
I built Opticsvault because I got tired of reading scope reviews written by people who'd never actually mounted a rifle or looked through glass under real conditions. I'd spent 15 years in the field—first as an infantry officer, then as a competitive shooter—and I kept seeing the same problem: marketing fluff masquerading as honest advice.
The turning point came during a 3-gun match when a shooter next to me spent $2,000 on a scope that was completely wrong for his application. He'd bought based on a review that focused on specs instead of real-world performance. I realized there was a gap between what people actually needed to know and what was being published online.
Opticsvault exists to close that gap. This is where shooters, hunters, and tactical professionals come to get straight answers about glass, mounts, and optics accessories—not marketing content dressed up as reviews. I test everything the way I'd test it for myself, and I tell you exactly what works and what doesn't.
About Marcus Webb
I'm a former Army infantry officer with a background in marksmanship training and small unit leadership. During my time in the military, I managed optics for our unit, coordinated rifle qualification programs, and learned quickly that equipment selection directly impacts performance under stress. That experience taught me that optics aren't luxury items—they're foundational tools that either enable or limit your capability.
After leaving the Army, I competed seriously in 3-gun and precision rifle matches for nearly a decade. That's where the real education happened. I've mounted, zeroed, and field-tested over 300 scopes, red dot sights, rangefinders, and magnifiers across hundreds of shooting hours. I've taken hits at 1,000+ yards with quality glass and learned what happens when you don't. I've run optics in rain, snow, sand, and extreme heat. I've switched mounts mid-season and felt the difference immediately. I've also made expensive mistakes—buying gear based on hype instead of function—so I know what those look like.
That combination of military experience, competitive shooting background, and hands-on testing across dozens of product categories is what informs everything on this site. I'm not a casual enthusiast writing about optics on the side. This is what I've built my expertise around, and it's what I do.

How We Test & Review
Every review on this site follows the same process. I spend real time with products—weeks or months, not days. I mount them, zero them, shoot through them, and use them in conditions that matter: field conditions.
My evaluation criteria include optical clarity and light transmission, durability and build quality, practical accuracy and point-of-aim reliability, ease of use and controls under stress, value relative to price, and fit for specific applications. I don't score products on specs alone. A scope with perfect technical numbers that doesn't work in the field gets an honest review reflecting that.
I'm transparent about affiliate relationships: Opticsvault earns commissions when you buy through our links, but that relationship doesn't influence my scores or recommendations. I've given low ratings to products from affiliate partners and high ratings to products I don't benefit from. If a scope isn't good, you'll read that here, regardless of who makes it or whether I earn a commission on the sale.
I also update reviews when products change and when I encounter new information. Optics knowledge isn't static, and neither are these articles.
